The do-it-all gravel: tight centre that rolls fast, three rows of shoulder knobs for grip.

What it does

The Thundero is Tufo's do-it-all gravel tyre, and the default choice if you only fit one. It rolls on tarmac to reach the tracks, holds on fast-rolling gravel roads, and only admits defeat in thick mud — that is where the Swampero takes over.

The tread

Two very distinct zones. In the centre, small, tight cubes : they form an almost continuous strip that rolls fast and quietly on hard ground. On the shoulders, three rows of serrated knobs that only come into play when leaning over — and then bite firmly, allowing tight cornering on gravel.

The casing and sidewalls

Supple casing 210/375 TPI : it smooths out uneven surfaces and stops the tyre bouncing, which keeps the bike stable at low pressure. The sidewalls are lined with a nylon layer, supple and tough, which protects against stone cuts — the most common injury in gravel, and the least repairable. A puncture-protection layer covers the tread.

Fitting

Tubeless ready, aramid beads, compatible with hookless rims. In 36, 40, 44 and 48 mm. For loaded bikepacking or very sharp terrain, see the HD.

Standard puncture protection An extra layer of rubberised casing under the tread: a sufficient barrier against most punctures, without hurting efficiency.	Grip Silica compound Nanostructured silica tread compound, tailored to each discipline. Its strong point is grip, especially in the rain.
Airtight TR rubber Nano-block inner rubber, built into the casing, which holds the air without an inner tube. It is what makes a tyre “tubeless ready”.	Nylon-reinforced sidewalls A nylon layer on the sidewalls of gravel and XC tyres: cut protection and stability at low pressure.
