Before it was a word, guidoline was a brand: Guidoline®, registered by Velox in 1913. Handlebar tape is one of the three product families Velox was founded with, in Argenteuil, in 1903. Over a century later, people in France still say “guidoline” for any handlebar tape, much as they say Hoover or Post-it.
Choosing your Guidoline®: a question of thickness
From 1.5 to 5 mm, thickness decides how much of the road you feel. The High Grip 1.5, the thinnest, stays as close to the bar as possible; the Ultra Grip 2.5, the professionals' Guidoline®, grips even in the rain; the Confort T4 (4 mm) and the Gravel Confort 5.0 (5 mm) soak up cobbles and gravel tracks. In between: the Classique range in EVA foam (Maxi Cork, Maxi Cork GEL) and the Silicone 3D, the newest arrival.
For vintage bikes, the Tressorex 85 and the Tressostar 90 are woven from 100% cotton in our workshops, just like the very first Guidoline®. Perforated or glossy, the finish is up to you; bar end plugs, another founding family from 1903, and Plastader 101 finishing tape complete the job.
