What it does

The Comtura Prima is the race tyre of the Tufo tubeless range: the one you fit for a cyclosportive, a road race or a fine Sunday ride, and keep afterwards for training because it lasts. It aims for two things at once — rolling fast and holding in the rain — where most race tyres choose the first and give up the second.

The compounds

The tread is in Grip Silica, a high-silica blend: this is what gives grip on wet roads, on white lines and on cold tarmac at the start of a ride. Beneath it, the casing is impregnated with Liquid Rubber, a low-hysteresis rubber — it returns less energy as heat with each wheel turn, so less rolling resistance. The tread is smooth in the centre, discreetly patterned on the shoulders.

The casing and protection

Casing 210/375 TPI, supple, which follows the road surface's defects rather than bouncing off them — as much comfort as speed retained. Under the tread runs a Vectran barrier, a very high-tenacity fibre that stops glass shards and flint without stiffening the tyre, and contributes to cornering stability. A rubber puncture-protection belt backs it up, just under the rubber.

Fitting

Aramid beads and profile compatible with hookless rims, like almost all recent carbon rims. Classic tubeless fitting: airtight rim tape, valve, Tufo Tubeless Ready sealant. In 25, 28 and 32 mm, black or tan sidewalls.

Vectran barrier The toughest material in the Tufo catalogue: a Vectran layer, a liquid-crystal polymer five times stronger than steel of equal cross-section, against punctures, cuts and blowouts.	Grip Silica compound Nanostructured silica tread compound, tailored to each discipline. Its strong point is grip, especially in the rain.
Liquid Rubber casing Casing compound made of liquid rubber and nanostructured silica, with low hysteresis: it is what gives the top-of-range models their efficiency.	Rubber puncture strip A thickness of rubber placed under the tread: whatever gets through the rubber stops there before reaching the casing. It adds to the model's puncture barrier; it does not replace it. Tufo calls it “protective rubber ply”.
